Christleton Locks

Christleton Locks are located on the oldest section of the Shropshire Union Canal, constructed between 1772 and 1779 as the 'Chester Canal' from Chester to Nantwich.  The full length of 'The Shroppie' - as it is often affectionately termed - from Ellesmere Port to Wolverhampton was not available to commercial traffic until the 1830's.

Christleton Locks are now taken in as part of the Baker Way public footpath which stretches some 13 miles from Chester to Delamere.
